New Bedford Community Health (NBCH) is proud to serve as the only primary care provider in the city of New Bedford, playing a vital role in ensuring that families and individuals have access to the care they need. With demand for primary care continuing to grow and a shortage of primary care providers, our capacity to meet the growing need for comprehensive, preventive, and continuous care, is limited. Without strong primary care, patients often turn to costly emergency services for conditions that could have been treated earlier and more effectively.

Expanding our primary care services is critical to addressing this gap. Regular visits with a trusted provider help patients manage chronic conditions, stay on top of screenings, and build lasting relationships that support their long-term health. For a community where many residents live at or below the Federal Poverty Level, this expansion is not just about access—it is about advancing health equity, reducing disparities, and strengthening the overall well-being of New Bedford.

The goal of New Bedford Community Health’s campaign is to renovate the newly acquired former Rite Aid building on Purchase Street, directly adjacent to our main site, creating 13,000 square feet of modern, dedicated primary care space. This expansion will significantly increase our capacity to meet the growing demand for care in New Bedford and the surrounding region.

The project will allow us to provide more patients with high-quality preventive services, early detection and treatment, and comprehensive chronic disease management in a setting designed for efficiency and comfort. By addressing current space limitations and integrating advanced medical and technology infrastructure, the expanded facility will not only improve patient care but also strengthen community well-being.
