Our Board of Directors
New Bedford Community Health is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors whose members reflect the rich cultural diversity of the NBCH’s patients and staff. Our Board is comprised of a consumer majority, with over half of its members receiving care at the Health Center. Each member provides valuable insight into how we can best meet our community’s and our patients’ needs.
The board is responsible for approving the strategic, business, and clinical priorities of the health center, and for monitoring performance on goals and objectives.
As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), New Bedford Community Health is a part of the innovative Community Health Center Model of Care. That model requires a board of directors made up of our patients and our communities. The people we serve always have a seat at the table, ensuring their needs are heard and that honor our commitment—empowering patients at all stages of life through an unmatched, high quality, affordable health care experience. With the population in our service area becoming more culturally diverse, New Bedford Community Health continues to seek out community representatives who complement the racial and ethnic composition of the patients we care for.

Responsibilities and Qualifications
NewBedford Community Health's governing Board of Directors volunteer their time to set and oversee the policies, strategies, and performance of the organization. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), the majority of New Bedford Community Health’s governing board members must be patients who use our services. This is incredibly important, as board members set the course for our future, and patient board members ensure that the patient perspective is front and center.
- Patient board members must be current NewBeford Community Health patients or parents/guardians of a patient.
- Non-patient community board members are also welcome.
- Board members attend a board meeting each month.
