The Women’s Health Department at New Bedford Community Health provides high-quality, sensitive, confidential care to a diverse community of female patients across the gender spectrum, from adolescence to advanced age.
Our Women’s Health team is, like all our medical teams, fully integrated with behavioral health providers and social workers available to support you. We recognize that gynecological health, family planning, pregnancy, and parenting are different experiences for everyone. We provide confidential services to women and teens. All services are provided by licensed physicians, nurse practitioners, physicians’ assistants, nurses, and a professionally-trained counseling staff. Your care team will work closely with you to make sure you understand everything about your medical needs, and that you are fully informed of all treatment options and potential outcomes. We will always make decisions with you, never for you.
Our Services Include:
- Routine exams
- Immunizations including HPV, hepatitis B, and flu
- Contraception including Nexplanon and IUDs
- Family planning, including walk-in pregnancy testing and emergency contraception
- Pre-and post-menopausal care
- Confidential services for teens
- Cervical cancer screening (Pap tests, colposcopy)
- Breast cancer screening
- On-site laboratory services
- Confidential HIV/STD testing and counseling
- Other services such as infertility care, menstrual concerns, pelvic pain, and more

New Bedford Community Health’s Women’s Health program has been helping women, moms, and babies in the Southcoast for generations. Our goal is to ensure that moms, babies, and families are healthy, happy, and connected to the services they need.
Planning for a growing family can be exciting and challenging for many people. We are here to help make this time easier by providing education, information, and health services. We believe that every childbearing experience is unique, and we will work with you to design a care plan that meets your needs.
Family Planning Services Available at New Bedford Community Health Include:
- Pre-pregnancy counseling and care
- Prenatal care
- Referrals to Southcoast Health OB/GYN
- Referrals to our WIC Program
- Help with health insurance and other social services
If you are looking for a pediatric provider, our staff can help you schedule with NBCH’s Pediatrics department to ensure continuity of care for your growing family. We can also help with referrals to our WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program for breastfeeding support and information about many other programs to support families with young children.
