Maternal Child Health Program: Home Visits for Expecting Mothers - Located in New Bedford

The Maternal Child Health Program is dedicated to promoting early access to prenatal care through in-home visits by licensed nurses at no cost to high risk pregnant women over the age of 19.

Services include

  • MassHealth and Healthy Start, WIC enrollment
  • HIV testing and counseling
  • Dental referrals
  • Prenatal vitamins
  • Smoking reduction/cessation
  • Short term counseling and referral
  • Breast-feeding education and support


The home-visiting program staff members are culturally sensitive and speak Spanish and Portuguese. Prenatal classes are offered for English-speaking and for Spanish-speaking patients. We help with:

  • Preparing for delivery
  • Infant care and feeding
  • Following patients for six weeks post-partum

Adolescent Services provide confidential reproductive health care services to teens between the ages of 13 and 17. This care includes birth control with routine gynecological care including counseling and STD testing and treatment. The staff also conducts pregnancy testing as well as HIV counseling and testing. Health education is a part of every visit. Prevention and risk reduction are always emphasized.
